Sir,

I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated 34 Ultimo and to acquaint you in reply thereto, for the information of the Governor of Newcastle that the transfer to the Colony free of cost of lands when they cease to be required for Military purposes had reference to the principle which governed such cases rather than to the individual case, this being the subject of this former correspondence.

Lord de la Warr entirely agrees with the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies.
